Production Planning and Control, generally refereed to as PPC, plays an important and vital role in any Manufacturing Industry. Production Planning is done in 2 stages - Macro and Micro. Production Planning - Macro: As a first step Production Planning needs to be done in Macro Level. The procedures are: 1. Evaluate Production Capacity of the Industrial Unit. 2. Ascertain the Material availability dates. 3. Plan the Production in terms of Start , Completion, and Shipment. 4. Coordinate with all Departments involved and get Positive Confirmations on all deadlines. 5. Document the entire process and make the same available to all concerned departments. 6. Follow up and update the records on a daily basis. 7. Address any deviations to the concerned Department Head and re plan if required. 8. Address the grievances or change in schedule to the concerned Department Head and get consent. 9. The Macro Plan Schedule should be updated regularly to reflect any changes in the initial schedules. 10. The changes should effectively be notified to all the Departments. All the Coordination in this stage should happen between the Head of the Departments only and the Sub ordinates should not be allowed to send any communication or queries to the other departments. This will ensure smooth functioning of all departments and avoid confusions. It shall be the duty of the Department Heads, to adhere to the Macro Schedule and notify any changes to the other departments, if any. And on the basis of the Macro Plan the HOD shall make their Plan, which will be the Micro stage and delegate the responsibilities to the sub ordinates in their respective departments. Production Planning - Micro: To achieve the objectives detailed on the Macro Plan, each HOD shall make their own detailed Planning. The procedures are: 1. Ascertain deadlines for Material Receipt and further Transfers. 2. Check the Materials for Quantity and Quality before transfer to the next Department. 3. Delegate responsibilities to their Sub ordinates, Coordinate and Control Department Process. 4. Maintain all Documents relating and required for the all processes handled. 5. Check on the Material Consumption and usage. 6. Systemize the Processes in their Departments. 7. Maintain tight Schedules and stringent Quality Standards all time. The entire process has to checked and coordinated by a Senior Personnel. There are 2 options: 1. Manager PPC handles all affairs listed above independently. 2. The Merchandising Manager handles all affairs. The Industry follows both principles and has to decide for itself on the same, taking into consideration, Organization Structure, Quantities, Capacity etc. |
